Rates
The rate reflects the machine, not the margin.
It cuts steep ground at three to four times the pace of a hand crew and reaches the sections other operators quote around. Fewer days on site, the whole block done, transport included and fuel at cost. Priced by the day, it costs more. Priced by the finished job, it rarely does.
What determines how many days a job takes
- Property size: 5 acres in reasonable condition typically takes less than a full day; 10+ acres may take 1 to 2 days
- Slope, and whether we can cut both ways: on steeper ground, we may need to cut downhill only, adding time
- Frequency of maintenance: regular clients take significantly less time than a property being brought back from neglect
- Trees on slopes: the number and spacing of trees on sloped sections is the biggest variable on comparable-sized properties; closely spaced trees require careful manoeuvring between passes
- Vegetation density: long, coarse growth takes more passes and more time than well-maintained grass
- Surface rock: many properties in the Pullenvale area have significant rock outcrop across slopes; this requires careful navigation and adds time to each run
We’ll give you a clear day estimate before we start. On larger properties, we’ll quote a range (e.g. 1 to 2 days) and invoice for actual days worked.
We log our jobs by GPS.
Our day estimates come from measured data, not optimism. Every job is GPS-logged, and the tracks tell us exactly how long ground like yours actually takes.
A recent example: a first cut through heavy signal grass on a block running from 18 to 30 degrees. Across 4.6 hours of on-site work the machine travelled 9.8 km and cleared around 6,600 square metres. That is an effective rate of roughly 1,400 square metres per hour, about a third of an acre.
The interesting number is why. The GPS shows every square metre was covered roughly 2.5 times. In heavy growth on that gradient the machine can only cut downhill; the grass mats under the deck and costs traction uphill, so every cutting pass is paid for with a return climb. On a maintained block that penalty disappears, the machine cuts both directions, and the same ground takes roughly half the time.
That difference is the honest arithmetic behind two things on this page: why a first cut is estimated at roughly double a maintenance cut, and why a regular cycle is the cheaper way to own the problem.
Charged by the litre.
Each job’s fuel is measured in litres and charged at the cheapest local unleaded price listed that day on RACQ’s Queensland fuel prices page. The litres and the price are itemised on your invoice. When unleaded gets cheaper, so does your fuel line.
